Growing up

I grew up in the Okanagan of BC. Growing up I had a black and white Akita named Betula. My childhood was spent in the mountains and lakes that surround the Okanagan. We moved a lot as a kid and I blame my restlessness on this.

Cayman

When I graduated high school I had no clue what I wanted to do or if I wanted to go to university. Growing up I always spent a lot of time in and around water. When a friend suggested I take a look at the local scuba diving program, I thought hey that makes sense. Six months later and a month long trip in the Cayman Islands I was a certified PADI Specialty Scuba Diving Instructor. While there I met a boy, so I moved back (rolls eyes), we didn’t work out, but a job did so I spent just short of a year working on a dedicated scuba diving yacht.

Time Off after Cayman

Fast forward a few years I took some time off scuba diving and worked an office job, but started to realize how much the 9-5 life wasn’t for me. So I called up my old company and told them I was available. I listed some really unrealistic scuba diving locations, that basically never had openings, that I wanted to work in (they had yachts all over the world) - Galapagos, Cocos Islands, Maldives, Raja Ampat, and Palau. The HR lady told me it was highly unlikely any of those would become available, but if she had an open she would give me a call. Two months later I got a call saying an opening had come up in Palau, two months after that call, on a rainy day in January, I jumped on a plane to Micronesia.

Palau/Greece

I worked in Palau for six months, it was very remote, with little or no access to the internet for weeks on end and I was away from my friends and family. It was one of the loneliest times of my life, but I was diving and it was beautiful! After six months I said goodbye to Palau and boarded a plane to Southeast Asia. I spent a few months backpacking the backpacker loop, then took a short-term diving job in Chania, Greece. Experiencing my first European summer. After Greece I accepted a job in Hong Kong aboard a 200 million dollar yacht the Ambrosia iii as the interior manager. How I got this job????? I don’t even know!

The End

Let’s just say life aboard a billionaires boat isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be. I only lasted a couple of months before I decided it was time to go home. I spent the years that followed reconnecting with friends, family and laying roots in Vancouver, BC (where I still call home), but the travel bug still hasn’t gone away yet. When I’m not shooting I’m traveling. I only have two continents left before I’ve been to all of them (Africa and Antarctica). I’m extremely passionate about creating images that resonate with the heart. Let’s make some magic!
