The Jungleroom Bali
If you find yourself in Canggu, and by chance, you head down Batu Bolong away from the beach, down the road dusted with Frangipani, left down a little bumpy driveway, (trust me keep going), there nestled among the mango trees, is the Jungleroom. And if you happen to take a peek into the Villa Mango, I can’t guarantee you’re going to make it back to Old Mans in time for happy hour, cause you’re gonna wanna check in for the night, in fact, make it two.
We’re greeted by a friendly face. He is leaving but gets off his scooter and guides us down the stone path to two hinged wooden doors. When he opens them I realize we have our own private pool. Villa Mango is set in a tropical garden with a high enclosed wall for the most secluded privacy. The mango tree that stretches over the pool is old and has grown high making you feel as if you’ve entered a secret garden.
The Jungleroom is a cluster of imported homes from Java and Sumatra. I can feel the history inside Villa Mango, like walking through an antique store, I want to touch everything, I want to know the stories of the families that lived in these Karo homes, I want to hear their histories. The decor screams Bohemian beach babe, but it also screams of Indonesian culture. The books, the colors, the woven hats. When I travel, I love to be immersed in the countries culture I am traveling too, and Jungleroom supplies that.
This is my hidden oasis, this is me feeling like a bohemian goddess princess, this is my vacation from the concrete jungle back home!
The layout is an open space, with a beautiful kitchen off to the side. Fully equipped for you to be able to cook any meal you may feel like whipping up. But you’re on vacation, so since you’re here to see what I suggest, let me suggest ordering from the Juice bar, get the smoothie bowl, and then get it again, and again. Your waistline may not forgive me, but your taste buds will thank me. So you’re welcome.
That Jungleroom Life
The Jungleroom makes me imagine a life in Bali, this is a place I want to host dinner parties, I want to dance barefoot in the living room in the woven hats, I want to go skinny dipping in the pool, I want to laugh until the sun comes up. The thing about the Jungleroom is it feels like home.
The nights I stayed at the Jungleroom, her royal bohemian goddess (self-named) got to crawl into four-poster beds of crisp linens resting her head on cloud 9 pillows, all in an air-conditioned room. There are altogether three bedrooms at Villa Mango! Enough to sleep six, and each bedroom has an adjoining bathroom.
Two out of the 3 bathrooms are outside bathrooms (flip a coin)! So listen I understand you’re exhausted from laying by the pool all day, and you’re probably stuffed from those smoothie bowls your Royal Highness demands you ordered, but promise me, that you will crawl into the outside bath, just get in (I know I’m asking a lot of you), and soak in the tub, all while looking up at that big star-speckled sky.
The Best Breakfast
I’ve already ranted and raved about the smoothie bowls, but really. The juice bar located at the Jungleroom has an amazing menu, I didn’t leave to eat anywhere else besides there my entire stay! That’s how good it was. Ok, one night I did go buy a Snickers chocolate bar! Which oh did I mention, Jungleroom offers yoga? yah take that Snickers chocolate bar!!!
The vines have completely engulfed the yoga room, it was so perfectly hidden I almost didn't find it.
And if yoga isn’t for you, they’ve also got a little jungle gym you can try out to keep your workout schedule on track!
All the Rest
Besides Villa Mango, Jungleroom also offers other accommodation. Located in the main area little Joglo houses circle around a pool, which anyone staying at the Jungleroom can hop in. This area feels like a small Indonesian village, the overgrown vines, the swing, the birds of paradise, JUNGLEROOM! I want to stay here forever!
Look don’t go here because you’re Khalessi orders you to, go because your Khaleesi is begging you to go spend your nights in the Jungleroom, because it is a jungle out there! And sometimes you need your own little jungle getaway to get through it. Check out the Jungleroom's website here: http://jungleroombali.com/
